In 1997, OHSNI established a cost effective and efficient program. Over the last 10 years we have had tremendous growth. The original agreement projected a patient caseload of 600.  In the fiscal year ending March 2006, OHSNI's caseload was 1418.  The 130% increase in patient caseload is unmatched when compared with the 24% increase in funding.  By way of comparison, OHSNI’s cost per patient of $1,455 has dropped to $790 in recent years. 

Patient length of stay has remained constant at approximately 10 to 12 days, with a mix of 1/3 children and 2/3 adults.

The specialty services that are used most frequently are Oncology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Respirology, Cardiology, and Neurology.
