Under the provisions of the Canada Health Act, Nunavut is responsible for delivering health care services to its citizens,. These services include insured hospital care and primary health services. All permanent residents, including Inuit, access the insured services using a current health insurance number. The Nunavut Health Insurance card is gray with red lettering. It does not include a photo.
Just as in Ontario, some health-related goods and services that are not insured by the basic government insurance plan.
For Inuit, Health Canada's Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program provides limited coverage for medications, goods and services that are not insured elsewhere.
