What OHSNI’S Nurses Do To Help
  1. OHSNI’s nurses are there to help all patients, and escorts, while they are in Ottawa. Please feel free to phone or visit us.  Although we can not solve every problem, we will do our very best to help.
  2. OHSNI’s nurses visit Larga often. Ask them questions. Say hello. The nurse:
  3. sends reports on the condition of all patients in Ottawa to the nurses and doctors every Thursday and as needed (e.g. surgery, change in condition and on discharge);
  4. helps plan the discharge of Baffin patients in partnership with the health care people inOttawa; organizes, and oversees, all follow up consults, medications, equipment, dressing or "home care" needs, while a patient and their escort remains in the Ottawa area;
    assists local stores to obtain NIHB insurance coverage to pay for any drugs and medical items needed by patients.  i.e. IV antibiotics, oxygen, dressing supplies, walkers, stoma produces;
  5. keeps an OHSNI  patient chart for all Baffin patients; sends a copy of all medical records received to Baffin Regional Hospital and the patient's Community Health Center; works with the staff in the hospitals and clinics to coordinate patient care by attending family care conferences and discharge meetings; relays all information to the North;
  6. coordinates the return of any patient who dies in Ottawa while under our services; is a contact person for the doctors, nurses, allied health personnel, patients, families, and interpreters in Ottawa, and in Nunavut.
  7. Our program obtains a consent from each patient allowing us access to their medical information
